Karnataka Bandh on March 22: Key Updates

Kannada Okkuta leader Vatal Nagaraj has stated that the statewide bandh on March 22 (6 AM to 6 PM) is expected to gain widespread support, though some organizations remain undecided about participation.

The bandh was announced on February 28 by Kannada Okkuta, a coalition of pro-Kannada groups, in protest against the alleged assault on a state-run bus conductor in Belagavi for not knowing Marathi. However, major pro-Kannada factions, including the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike groups led by T.A. Narayana Gowda and Praveen Shetty, have opted out.

Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G confirmed that schools and colleges will remain open, despite expected transport disruptions. State-run transport services (KSRTC and BMTC) will continue to operate, though the bandh may impact SSLC (Class 10) students appearing for exams.

However, with transport services likely to be disrupted, the bandh is expected to impact lakhs of SSLC (class 10) students appearing for their exams tomorrow.

State-run transport corporations, KSRTC and BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation), will remain operational.
